FOOD IS LEARNING.

Hunger impacts a student’s success at school. By providing the healthy, nutritious meals kids need to thrive, Second Harvest Food Bank is feeding inspiration, change, achievement, health — & families facing hunger.

Kids can’t learn on an empty stomach.

It’s impossible to concentrate in class, contribute to group projects or stay on top of homework when all you can think about is not what but if there will be dinner. Missing meals can impact a student’s growth and development and affect their ability to learn and thrive.

Second Harvest’s School Partnerships Program meets students and families where they are – at school. With snack packs, school markets and fresh produce distributions, each partnership aims to expand access to the nutritious food students need to learn and thrive, while allowing food to take home for the entire family.

“This really helps us and I get to make some of the shopping choices,” says Melissa. She and her mom walked through an after-school market at her middle school.

They leave with one bag filled with fresh fruits and vegetables like bananas, avocados, bell peppers, onions and a pineapple. A second bag has oatmeal, soups, rice, pasta and other pantry staples.

Because of you, kids have access to the healthy, nutritious food they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Fighting Childhood Hunger

One in five Central Florida kids is at risk of going to bed hungry tonight. Hunger can impact their success today and derail their long-term growth and potential.

Through a variety of programs, Second Harvest Food Bank is helping close the hunger gap for our most vulnerable population. Kids Cafés, School Partnerships and Summer Food Service programs meet kids where they are to provide them with healthy, nutritious food.
